Soumyen Bandyopadhyay is an architect and architectural historian at the Manchester University〔(【引用サイトリンク】title= NTU : Soumyen Profile )〕 His research interests are focused on the historical, theoretical and contextual approaches to architectural design and the art and architecture of India and the Middle East. He undertakes advisory and consultancy work in urban development, regeneration, architectural and urban design and conservation. ==Education== Born and brought up in Kolkata, Soumyen secured first position in first class in the Bachelor of Architecture (B Arch) from the Bengal Engineering College,〔Bengal Engineering College was established on 24 November 1856 as the Calcutta Civil Engineering College, training personnel for the Public Works Department, and located at the Writers Building, Howrah. In May 1857 it became affiliated to the Calcutta University. From 1865 to 1879 the college functioned as the Civil Engineering Department of Presidency College, Kolkata. In 1880 the college moved to a new campus at Bishop's College, Howrah, and was known as Bishop's College. On 12 February 1920 the name was changed to Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur. The word Shibpur was deleted on 24 March 1921 and it became Bengal Engineering College. Presently it is known as The Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur.〕 Sibpur under the University of Calcutta in 1983. He did his Masters of Architecture (M Arch) by Research in the University of Liverpool in 1991, his master’s thesis was on ''India's Urban Housing Problem and the Role of Revitalisation''. Soumyen earned his Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) from University of Liverpool in 1998, where his doctoral research was on ''Manah: Architecture, Archaeology and Social Structure of a Deserted Omani Settlement''
